Week 8 - Term 3 (03.09.13)
English
In this week's homework I would like you to write a narrative (story) for the Penrith Valley Writing Competition. The topic for the story is historical fiction. Sounds hard, but it isn't. All you need to do is include a real character and setting from the past. Some ideas for your story are below:
* Knights and Kings * Old town Sydney * Sailing on the First Fleet * Aboriginal perspective on the First Fleet * New York in the 1950's and 1960's * Former Prime Ministers or Presidents * London in the 1920's and 1930's * War time in Europe It has asked in the brief that you do not use fictional characters so you could always do a little research about these topics and make a story based on a real life person from history. If you research into one of these topics a little bit, you are going to find out about some really interesting characters/people that you can add to your story. The EVENTS in your story can be make believe (or real) but try and make the characters as real people from history (hence the topic - historical fiction). What you need to do: * Create a story with an introduction, body and conclusion (make it easy on yourself and do a detailed PLAN) * Make sure there is a complication at the start and a solution at the end * Lots of description and detail * Spoken words if you like * Edit your work carefully * Add a picture at the end IF YOU WISH * It needs to be approximately 400 words If you have any questions, send me an email using the contact form below.
